CoinOp

Common questions

What CoinOp costs, what it runs on, what happens when the internet goes down, and where your money’s worth of data actually lives.

What does CoinOp cost?

One flat subscription per venue, per month, with everything included. There is no cheaper tier that withholds the kitchen printer, and no charge per till, per table, per station or per member of staff. A venue with thirty tables and six tills pays the same as a venue with four tables and one.

Is there a free trial, and does it need a card?

CoinOp works fully for seven days from the first time it starts. There is nothing to enter and no card to give — you download it, install it, and run a real week on it. After that it needs a licence key, which is pasted in once under Settings → Licence.

Does CoinOp work without an internet connection?

Yes. CoinOp runs on a machine inside your venue and the tills reach it over your own network, so selling, printing, timing tables and closing a shift all work with the line down. Only three things need the internet: WhatsApp messages, bookings arriving from your website, and the once-a-day licence check.

Where is my sales data stored?

On your own machine, in your own building. The takings, the menu, the customers and the whole trading history live in a database on the computer CoinOp is installed on, and are never uploaded to us. The daily licence check carries the licence key, an install id, your venue name and the version — nothing about your customers or your money.

Exactly what leaves the building →

What hardware do I need to run it?

One computer running Linux or Windows to be the server, and any device with a browser as a till — a counter PC, a tablet on the floor, a phone. Receipt printers, a cash drawer and a customer-facing screen are supported but not required. Most venues run it on a machine they already own.

Installing it →

Can CoinOp charge different rates at different times?

Yes. A rate profile sets what an hour costs by day and by hour, so a Tuesday afternoon and a Friday night can be different prices on the same table. Rates can be charged per station or per player, with a minimum charge, rounding, a grace period, and a cheaper rate once a session runs long.

How rates work →

Does it work with gaming PCs and ggLeap?

Yes. CoinOp sells ggLeap passes at the till: the passes come from ggLeap’s own catalogue rather than being retyped, the pass goes onto the customer’s account when the sale is paid, and voiding the line takes it back off again. Gaming PCs can also sit in the waiting list even though ggLeap runs them.

Can staff see the takings when they close a drawer?

No. Whoever counts a drawer is not shown what CoinOp expects to be in it, because knowing the figure turns counting into matching. Staff count blind; managers and owners, who are the ones checking somebody else’s count, do see the figures. The server withholds the numbers rather than the screen hiding them.

Shifts and the end of the day →

Can I take bookings from my own website?

Yes. CoinOp reads a booking feed from your website, so reservations made online appear beside the walk-in queue on the same screen, and a party due now raises an alert on whichever till somebody is standing at. Bookings can also be taken at the counter if the venue does not take them online.

Bookings →

Does CoinOp do loyalty points?

Yes, and anyone can be a member — there is no card, no app and nothing to sign up for. A customer earns one point for every minute they play, and spends points on free table time at checkout. You set how many points buy a free minute, and whether points expire. Food and drinks earn nothing: the points are for time on a table.

Can I run a pool tournament from the till?

Yes. Enter the players, draw the bracket, and each match is called to a real table on your floor. Entry fees go through the till so they land in the day’s takings, the prize fund is worked out from the fees plus anything you add, and each place is paid out of the drawer and recorded. Single elimination today; double elimination and leagues are not built yet.

Tournament nights →

Can I put the tournament bracket on a screen in the room?

Yes. It is a read-only page you open on any browser in the building — no PIN, nothing to sign into, and it cannot change anything. It scales itself to whatever monitor it is on and picks up results within a few seconds, so a screen that reboots mid-evening comes back correct.

The screen in the room →

Will CoinOp message my customers?

On three occasions, and each is switched on separately: a birthday, points about to expire, and a regular who has stopped coming. All three go by WhatsApp and only to people who said they were happy to be contacted. Each is sent once and recorded, so a till restarted three times in a morning does not send three birthday messages.

The three messages →

How do I cancel?

From the customer portal, at any time. The subscription runs to the end of the period you have already paid for. Your data is yours and stays on your server — nothing is switched off remotely except the licence itself.
